Then LowHero.DLL released "Worse Than Digital". An epic extended EP. I did a dirty dubstep version of the track "Roman Holiday", that turned out pretty neat:

I don't usually post about other artists on my blog. In this case however I feel I need to make an exception.

I really got into doing music because I love listening to and especially discovering new music. There are so many bands out there, it's really mind boggling. So when a band stands out of the crowd I always feel compelled to spread the work. To get people out of their shells and LISTEN.

Curxes is a band I can really relate to. They seem to take all the elements of 80's electro and goth music, breath new life into it, and then present it in an original way. I have always had a soft spot for British bands anyhow. Everyone knows my favourite band is COIL. I have made it pretty obvious. When I was growing up though I was also huge into the goth rock movement. Siouxsie, Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, The Cure [come on, only a communist or a person without a soul would not like The Cure, and i'm not even really certain about the communist] I also really got into what is now considered synth rock or synthpop. Duran Duran, Ultravox, Gary Numan, Soft Cell, and Depeche Mode. I just fucking love music really.

Somewhere here I lost my point.

And I was completely blown away. The first thing that hit me is that immense synth bass pad thing. Totally sounds analog and it is so overwhelming. I love it. Then the vocalist comes in. Has this brilliant style and sense of melody. The two parts really contrast and compliment each other. I quickly found that this combination was present on every single track. Especially "Spires", where it is just that immense atmosphere along side the vocals. Gripping track really. I get chills.

So really, enough bullshitting around. I just wanted to show my immense support for this band. My utmost gratitude that they sent me a CD and my best wishes for their long and successful journey into the music world. I am very happy to have discovered Curxes and their art.

The Noise Briefcase [revisited]

I made a significant step forward in the realization of the "Noise Briefcase", idea. I have acquired a KORG Monotribe to accompany the DSI Mopho for sound generation duties.

An ingenious little device that combines and 808 sounding drum machine with a nasty little MS style synth. On it's own, you can make some great- though rather simplistic retro-sounding minimal electro pieces.

Run through a 4ms Noise Swash though the sound gets completely wicked.

Natures Revenge!

Well, it has been a shitty month or so. First the old PC from 2003 finally died. I have had to rebuild everything with a new motherboard-which is kinda cool because it is an upgraded system. However it was very difficult because my RAM was no longer the same and the new motherboard is all SATA when the old one was IDE. SO I had to change things around. Get some adapters. Also I had to buy a new copy of Windows XP-Because I am still using such an old copy of Cubase :P I like the work-flow, what can I say. Not like my music has been suffering even though i'm not using shiny new Ableton or Logic.

Anyhow, then it rained like hell this weekend and the studio flooded :O

All the gear was up high, so nothing was really damaged. A few pieces got wet and I am waiting for them to get completely dry before I mess with them. Overall I think it was damn lucky. The real drama was that I had allotted this weekend to get several projects done and I was unable to do so. Now I have to wait for next weekend because the basement is all musty and uncomfortable. Going to air it out and get it together during this week.

The Rising Sun

Been a long and quiet winter for me musically. Nothing new has spawned until now. The EP is still in the works and the completed LP is still in the waiting line for a mastering treatment. No new news in those fields.

There will be some new music released from me soon though in the form of a couple Japanese Relief effort compilations. I used to be in the US military, and I was stationed in Yokosuka Japan for three years. I lived out in the city and traveled Japan as much as I possibly could. I actually started writing my own music during this time so the country has always been close to me and in my thoughts. Right now my heart goes out to them. I am watching the unfolding events through NHK World and the military website Stars & Stripes.

I am submitting R010R- Pro-Right. An exclusive track that I created for the ill-fated Zero Demographic compilation. Then for another comp I have submitted the completed Advent Dawn track "A Portrait in Mind". Again, Advent Dawn is a project between myself and Ingo Beitz of kAlte fArben fame.

This is my remix of Front Line Assembly for the contest over at FIXT. Sign up and vote if you enjoy it. There are several other great artists that participated as well. Check out the list and be amazed :D

Next in line, I have been experimenting with a new sound. Melding sludge metal-noise-and dubstep elements to create something new.

So I am going to work on and release a special digital EP before I worry about releasing the 2nd R010R LP. Right now it is shaping up to be around 6 tracks. I might ask some people to drop a remix or two for it.

The average BPM for the tracks is about 110, so they are going to be really slow moving and fucked up noisy. Think like Scorn. The vocals are like metal though, really drawn out screaming, reminiscent of Neurosis.

To be honest, I have never felt so free before writing music. I am tearing down all ideas of fitting into a genre, just doing what I hear in my head and what I feel is not being done by anyone else. I think in another month or two this should be ready to drop on BandCamp. I'll do an update with some clips in a couple weeks.

Potholes in the road to salvation

There has been a set-back in the album release date. Ingo has decided to move locations within Germany this year, and opportunity has opened up for him and he wishes to strike while the iron is hot. This means it is very difficult to work on music at all, and the work on his kAlte fArben album and my mastering sessions have been put on hold until further notice.

R010R feat. I, Parasite and 50 cent!

The long silence has ended. The 2nd campaign of R010R, the hybrid noise/evolved electro music project returns with a vengeance in true 21st century form.

The new digi-single DIST embodied will prepare you for the upcoming LP. DIST embodied is a collaborative track between R010R & I, Parasite. Featuring Christopher Jon's unique vocal style over extremely addictive and accessible electro-industrial music. Two mixes are available in this release. Accompanied by two more "b-side", tracks. This idea was taken directly from the golden age of industrial music. Where singles and exclusive b-sides could hold their own in the annals of our rusted history. The additions, Resistance and Self-Preservation were finished and made exclusive for this release. Resistance is the last working track of the group Noise Process. Completely redesigned and remixed for this project. Self-Preservation was cut off the forthcoming album End.Of.All.Reason which is already full at 77min. A lot of work was put into all of these tracks, Im sure you will notice the detail. Once again, everything was mastered by Ingo Beitz of kAlte fArben for specific qualities and intentions.

Oh yeah!? You are wondering where 50 cent fits in here. Well the tracks are available exclusively at http://soillodge.bandcamp.com [starting 03-01-2010]where you will find them in any digital format you wish for a mere 50 cents USD each. So you can get this entire digi-single directly from me for a measly $2 USD. Today I am working on re-doing the vocals for "en force", a very EBM influenced track that started out minimal and became very complex. I am going to keep it's complexities but I want to feature a very minimal EBM vocal approach and shorten the track considerably. I am already out of space on the album and I do not want to omit any tracks that made the cut.

The "DIST embodied", single is also coming along nicely. Ingo is mastering the 2 actual "DIST embodied", mixes and I just finished one of the B-sides, entitled "Resistance". Working on the final track right now, which at the moment is called R010R24. I title all my ideas by numbers before they become songs and adopt names. I am currently in the 40's with R010R ideas. 24 was made immediately after "Gradual Destabilization". It did not make the cut for the END album because I found upon reopening it that I lost all my drum kit sounds in an HD transfer. SO I am rebuilding the track from the scratch MIDI and the few WAVs I dropped in the folder. It is turning out even better than before. I am really happy overall with how this "Dist embodied", single release is turning out. More info very soon.

Here is a new desktop design for promotion of the LP. Low rez, dirty industrial, optimized for 1680 width screen to be used with a black background.

Change of plans. The LP "End.Of.All.Reason" will be released early in 2010. I would have to rush things to get it done in time and I am still nitpicking little inconsistencies. Also Ingo is very busy with his own album, it will take him some time to finish the mastering.

So I have decided to release a digital single with 4 tracks much sooner. "DIST embodied", was a track I did collaborating with I, Parasite earlier this year. The single will feature a club cut mix and the LP mix of the track, as well as two b-sides. One was omitted from "End.Of.All.Reason", because of space, and the other is the final Noise Process track that I was putting together before the project went defunct. Completely rewritten and R010Rized..

This single will only be available through a special R010R site that I will announce when the time comes. Until then check out the new clips at: soillodge @ ning and gear up for more content and new releases as 2009 finally draws to a close.

Main focus is lyrics and vocals for "idiom", completion of vocals for "suicide pact", and decision on vocals or instrumental for the untitled track. I do not want to rush anything, but I want to get this LP out as soon as I can. However I will not compromise ideas and if this means the LP is delayed until I am happy with specifics, so be it.

Been so damn busy I have not been able to keep up with the journal. I did some remixes, an exclusive R010R track and an exclusive Advent Dawn track for some compilations. When they are released I will get more info.

Had to take a bit of a hiatus through the last couple months because of a family emergency. SO forgive me for losing track of what recording week this is. These past 2 weeks I completed a few more songs including "Trust In Decay", and "En-Force". I also placed a couple of new clips up at the soillodge website. At this rate the album should be complete and on it's way to be mastered by Oct. I also wrote and recorded a new Advent Dawn track with Ingo Beitz for the upcoming compilation "Sanity is Slavery". More info on that soon.

I have some ideas for the End.Of.All.Reason release as well. Digital and Physical package options. Right now though I am too scatterbrained to lay them out. I need to turn on the 360 and kill some "necromorphs" :P

I have been back in audio mode for about 4 days. I have chosen 15 tracks thus far to fill out the album. This makes it about 82min-but when I pull the tracks together to make the LP seamless I will take up this extra time. Preliminary track listing is:

I am currently replacing some sounds and doing pre-mixes for en-force, escape, and suicide pact because they were written with some older synths and I wanted to bring the Virus B and some Reaktor ideas into the equation. Nothing has finished vocals yet, I still have rough placements set on the songs, which is why I have not uploaded any clips yet. I may just have to upload some instrumentals in the meantime, I just avoid doing that because I feel vocals and lyrics add so much more to a track. If anyone wants to drop some feedback on this, I would appreciate it.

Also keep in mind- the artwork I am posting in this blog are just ideas. I am not going to post the actual artwork-also I cannot do this effectively because the package will have textures that cannot be produced digitally, just like Gradual Destabilization did. There will be a great contrast in the final package though, because of my growing love of stark vector imagery and my ongoing fascination with photo-manipulation. The CD and package will be worthwhile to own and examine, and it will fit the music perfectly. Again it will be another limited edition printing, hand designed with a digital press and screen printing from Sire Press.

The updating and migration of all files is completed. There are roughly 20 tracks that I need to sort through and decide what is appropriate for the album and what needs to wait and evolve some more. Unfortunately my brain is on audio-overload, which means I need to switch to art for a while until it can reset.

Recording Journal: week 2

I am migrating tracks now. This has to be done because I upgraded some of the instruments and FX I have been using throughout the past 2 years. Some of these tracks were written with Battery 1 and some of them were even on Cubase 3.1. In fact I just upgraded to SX last year and I have only written a couple R010R tracks since the upgrade. Mostly it has been remixes and special tracks for compilations.

Now I am working with NI Battery 2 [I really do not like 3] and I am moving a lot of softsynths over to the impOSCar and Reaktor. Luckily though, I did know to drop down the real instruments to WAVs whenever I completed a track. So I do not have to go searching for real synth patches anywhere. In fact my biggest dilemma right no is migrating drum kits to Battery. I did not save the drum kits for each track and now I have to spend 20-30 min tracking down every individual WAV file-through my vast collection of 100 drumkits :/ A real pain in the ass. I am kicking myself for not thinking ahead.

Today I refinished the very first track [The Writers Cage] and the very last track [Our Collapsed Star] both working titles. I am very excited because I got to start using the Battery 3 drum kits [even though I only like the Battery 2 unit]. Also I have been able to change some of the weaker synth sounds I had saved, to some of the bad ass new Virus B patches. Thanks again to Chris [I, Parasite] for selling this beast to me. I was borrowing a Virus C [from AiB] when I wrote "Gradual Destabilization", I really did not like how smooth and clean it sounded. I was also fond of the dirtier and powerful Virus B. So now it is my backbone real synth alongside the KORG MS2k.

Then I have my noise beast! Early on in R010R, I used a Nord 2 specifically for noise. Then when I heard the 4ms Noise Swash [again thanks to Chris-IP] I knew I had a replacement for my noise needs. Now I am having a great time adding total noise to these tracks. It really makes an incredible impact. I will put up some new demo tracks soon. I just need to test some of the mixes for accuracy...

R010R-End.Of.All.Reason [2009]

The follow-up to last years R010R LP "Gradual Destabilization", is in the production stages.

This LP was started immediately after GD was complete. All the songs are written, sequenced, and mostly recorded. I just have to add the vocals and figure out the placement. Also I have more tracks that I can put on an 80min CD so I have to figure out what to use and what to set aside for later.

In this discussion post I will put all the updates for the audio [supported by clips on the website player] and updates for the artwork concept. I am working with Sire-Press again, so the package will be a very artistic and specific part of the album.
